That's pretty interesting, I knew about Hidden Palace Zone but I didn't know there were others that were scrapped too.

I honestly find it hilarious that there's a place called "Genocide City Zone". I mean, it's so dark for a game like Sonic 2 that you just can't help but laugh at the name.

Oh wow, my brother had Sonic 2 for Genesis and we had a Game Genie. I actually remember trying that code they talk about and accessing Hidden Palace Zone. Indeed it is very unfinished.

Although the music to the zone can be accessed in options without Game Genie. Just go to options and choose Sound Test 10. It's a song not used in the game.

It's in the credits as well.

I don't remember the song in the end credits for some reason. It's been a long time since I did the code.

Since the video mentions it, I remember watching Nick Arcade on TV and Emerald Hill Zone had different music. Though I saw this after my brother got his Genesis and Sonic 2, so it must have been a repeat. Sad they removed Hidden Palace, it really looked like a nice level from the screenshots.

Here's a little fun fact. Toxic Caves in Sonic Spinball features Hidden Palace "rock-style" (lack for a better phrase) in the background. Here's a screenshot of it (look at the background).

Resurrecting this thread because it seems appropriate. The iOS version of Sonic 2 will be released today and much like the Sonic 1 iOS game, it has some new features. Boss Attack Mode, Knuckles will be playable and it runs at 60 fps.

Why am I bringing it up in this thread? Well, the much talked about Hidden Palace Zone will be a playable level in this version. At only £1.99, it's a sold deal for me.

You can find out more about it here: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/news/a537628/sonic-2-on-ios-remastered-adds-missing-hidden-palace-zone-stage.html
