| This morning in college we were shown a documentry called "The Cove" which showed how Dolphins are slaughtered in Taiji in Japan. They are chased and driven into a cove where they are killed for meat (which is actually toxic) or caught to be sold to places like Sea World to be made to perform.
It was horrific, and the documentry drove a lot of the class, including me to tears. And people don't even know this is happening because it's covered up. I think everyone should know about it, some people know that whaling goes on in Japan but few know about this. The more people who know, the better the chance is of it being stopped.
If you can I advise watching The Cove to learn about it, and check this website which has info about it: http://www.savejapandolphins.org/educate.php
Everyone needs to know, it is disgusting that this is happening.
Anyway... Did anyone ever know about this before now? And what do you think about it?

| Yes, and it's horrible, but they have good reason to hide it.
Those people are like pirates. When they got found out for harpooning whales, the whole of japan got stereotyped for it. They didn't want the same to happen about this too, as their reputation of being the pinnacle of gaming would go down the toilet and the gaming industry would collapse.

It's unlikely the gaming industry would collapse. Japan may loose their reputation at the worst, but what's more important? Japan's reputation or millions of innocent dolphin's lives?
The majority of Japan don't even know it's happening.

| Well, let's see..............
The dolphins, of course.
But, even if it was discovered, there's nothing anyone can do. You can't stop a pirate by anything short of execution, and then you're killing millions of pirates instead of millions of dolphins.
It's not just Japan though. The tribespeople of Amazonia hunt the rare pink Amazonian dolphin for food, and no one complains about them.
It's like telling me to stop being a hacker or be more sociable. It just won't happen.
It's not just the Japs - they're just the ones who bear the whole brunt of the stereotyping.

As they hunt them for food, & it's big part of their diet. The Japanese hunt the Dolphins to capture them & eat them, though...it is unneeded & frown upon, as Dolphins are considered a delicacy, not part of their staple diet, plus the Japanese are aware of how rare Dolphins are. Those native to Amazon are not, for numerous reasons... The way they capture them, is really distressing, too...

| Nobody eats dolphin meat in Japan, it has mercury in it which is actually poisonous. It's normally sold disgused as something else.
This can be stopped too, if the world finds out about what's really going on they will be outraged. Watch The Cove and you'll see what I mean.
Also it's not just happening in Japan, it happens in places like Denmark too, there's a video of it on youtube but it's disturbing... Don't watch it if you're easily upset. I can't even make it to the end, it's hidious...

| Ever heard of boycotting?
They did it against a racist country a while ago.
If people find out about this, Japan gets stereotyped and everything that comes from Japan, boycotted.
That includes games, anime, manga - you name it, if it comes from Japan it will never return to our shelves.

That's highly unlikely. People may boycott the fishermen but they have no reason to do it to things that have nothing to do with it. They wouldn't get away with it.
Even if they did, the dolphins are more important.
